Hello and welcome! We are the Smyth family, living near Goodhope, MO. Life is full, often too full for blogging, but we’re also vlogging! We would love for you to join us on Youtube if you’d like.
This blog began in January, 2009 as part of a home school project, under the name Heavenly Homesteading. When the project ended, we decided to continue blogging as a way to stay connected with family and friends from afar and share little bits of our lives.
In the spring of 2015, Kip completed his Permaculture Design Certification through Geoff Lawton’s online course. Since then, our journey into a more sustainable way of life has been deeply inspired through permaculture design, hence the blog name change to “1000’s of roots”.
Our hope is to be able to share some real life perspective and encouragement with those of you out there who have also decided to step into the wonderful world of permaculture. We look forward to sharing our journey with you as we develop our design, create a family business along the way, and work to facilitate permaculture education and implementation in our community. We hope you’ll join us as we learn to not just survive, but thrive!

So wonderful! I look forward to watching you grow and see how our Father continues to bless and establish you as Psalm 127 says. Now, I mean no offense, but you I think you mean “hence” not “hints.”

No offense taken. Thank you for that. Blessings to you.

Greetings,
My family and I recently came across your channel on YouTube and what a blessing it has been. We enjoy the videos and the way of life you all share with us on that platform.
I was curious, do you have more information or videos on your faith and beliefs?
Thank you
October 4, 2018 at 11:00 am
Thank you for sharing. We include little bits about our faith and beliefs in many of our videos, but in the last Day In The Life Series video (Daddy of 6) Kip sums up what we believe at the end of the video.
November 2, 2018 at 7:05 pm
I was wondering the same- about your beliefs! I watched the end of that video and am so glad I did.
I only discovered your videos a few days ago but am loving them!
I’m a conservative Christian and my husband, daughter and I are in Virginia. We also are working towards increasing our family and living a more simplistic life. I told my husband about your videos too! Thank you for sharing your lives!

Our family found your YouTube channel a few months ago and we have enjoyed every video! Especially the video about you guys overcoming adversity on your way back to the States. We’ve recently bought land about 2 hours north of you guys and are just now starting to be able to be out on it some and are experiencing some adversity ourselves! We’re a homeschooling, (trying to become) a homesteading, Torah keeping family as well and would love to meet you guys one day! Shalom!

I’m sick today and in bed. I don’t feel well enough to do anything so I was watching YouTube videos and ran across your’s. It was fun to watch. I found out you are near Ava.
I am a mother of 12 (8 bio, 4 adopted from foster care), grandmother of 14 so far, homeschooled since 1986 (I’m 63), retired RN and a midwife. We live on 80 acres. We were city folks who wanted to live a ranch life. My husband has done well by studying. He is now a successful rancher of sheep and cattle. We raise grass fed animals.
We have two of our daughters with their husbands and children living in houses on our land with us. I frequently feed 18-28 people at least once a week (Sunday). We live outside of Mountain Grove, Missouri.
Thanks for your videos they are fun! Sheryl

I love your channel. What a beautiful family and a beautiful life you are providing for your children. My children are grown and it makes for a lonely home life. I love all your children but I find that Esther’s smile warms my heart. What a sweet child. Thank you for sharing yours with us all. Wishing you the best.

Love watching your channel…wondering where the name “Biddle” came from?
February 6, 2019 at 8:44 am
Thanks for watching! We called her “Little Bit” for a while and then it just became “Bittle”. Her real name is Naomi.
February 10, 2019 at 6:28 pm
I also love your videos. And I had a question: How did Caleb get the nickname, “Scooter”?
February 13, 2019 at 12:38 pm
Thanks for watching our videos Marilyn! Caleb got the nickname “Scooter” because that was Kip’s nickname and it just seemed fitting to pass it on.

I also enjoy you videos. I find it refreshing that you share your family and their activities. I enjoy the “A day in the life of —–” videos. Your approach makes your videos are a little different from the various other Homesteader videos. Thank you for sharing.

Hello I’m from B.C. Canada,
I was wondering what the round thing is your video where you show the other family in your recent vlog.
Also I wish to have a home where I can have my own garden one day. I don’t know when it will happen but it will. I’m Also a YouTuber but not really lol.
August 28, 2019 at 12:26 pm
Hello, The round thing is a platform for a yurt. We hope to video the yurt all set up in a video soon. We hope you get to have your own garden sooner than you think. Blessings, Carrie

Hi, I am a mother of 2 wonderful children, living in a large city. But I do have a small organic garden.
I wanted to learn more about online suppliers and any gluten free/grain free products you use. Plus free or cheap shipping to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As we have auto immune issues.
Currently we are GF and Dairy Free . I have the Gaps book however I find it more difficult as my younger one is in school(packing lunches have to be nut free).
Can you give me rough measurements for the breakfast bread you make looks delicious, obvious in the videos that your beautiful children love the bread. I believe it is Arrowroot ?
Shalom

Hello Susan. GAPS can be difficult with children. That is one reason we didn’t stay on the diet as long as I would have liked. Unfortunately, I use blanched almond flour for our flatbread, so your younger one may not be able to eat it. We did do a video on how to make it though, if you are still interested (located under our HOMESTEAD KITCHEN playlist). We don’t order many items online, but do get a few items through Amazon, healthyfour.com, and Jovial Foods. Blessings to you and your family.

I’m not a “believer” but I so enjoy your videos and how Carrie begins each one with her beautiful garden. I also greatly appreciate that you are teaching your children about working and working together. There doesn’t seem to be a whiner or a complainer in the bunch. I think you’re raising 7 beautiful people who will contribute to the world all the critically important values you are teaching them and that is awesome. Thank you for sharing your lovely videos.

Hello there, I have very much enjoyed your video’s and have been inspired by your example to homeschool. I am new to homeschool myself. This being our first year, I am struggling to find biblical scripture filled material. My interest is in what types of curriculum you use and why you chose it?
Blessings

Hello Stacy,
Good questions. We have a new website where I share a simplified list of our current curriculum choices. The list is on our “Common Questions” page here: https://1000sofrootshomesteading.com/faq/
Blessings to you,

Shalom & good morning to everyone in the family. I’m Agartha from Malaysia. I’ve been watching your Youtube videos since August this year. I really enjoyed what I watched & learned about homestead living in the way that your family is doing it right now. I don’t watch any other homestead videos because yours is really addicting. 😁. That is my very honest opinion because I have grown to love your family so much. I feel a connection because I really like the way that your family builds Christian values into your relationships with each other. I see the warmth & care in your conversations. I see how your children grow up, helping out in all of everyday chores, their talents and the fun they had while working. I love all of your children. I don’t have children of my own yet and I wish I can have children like them. Helpful & respectful towards their parents. I am really really encouraged & blessed watching everything that you all did together at your property. My parents also watched the videos with me and we even talked about you all during our lunch & dinner time. I have a routine now where I must watch at least 2 videos of homestead living or 100s of roots. The background music is also lovely. I would hear them in my mind, all the time. And I would remember your smiles, the vegetables garden, your meal times, the work you all did at the farm, the winter activities, everything. Please don’t stop what you are doing now. Please continue. You & your family have been a huge blessing for me. I believe God is using you all to bless many people in many ways. Please send my best wishes to everyone in the family. I think Esther is so beautiful. She is an amazing daughter. I am the eldest child in my own family, just like Caleb. I wish Caleb success in his studies. Joshua is so vibrant and I really enjoy watching him bouncing around doing many things. Nathan will grow up to be a fine gentleman next time. There is an inner strength in him to follow God. Joseph is cute. His face is always glowing with God’s blessing. Esther, you are God’s fine daughter. Naomi is simply a delight to the eyes. She loves flowers a lot & I think she will grow up to be like her mom next time. And the youngest, Abigail. She is adorable. I would love to carry her around with me & baby sit her 😁. Carrie, please continue to serve the Lord with Kip and your children. I remember Proverbs 31:10-31 when I saw you. Kip is a Godly father & I remember about Psalm 1:1-3 about you. I pray blessing over you and your family and whatever you do, do it with your whole HEART. YHWH, our Heavenly Father in the name of Yeshua bless you all abundantly. Amen
